Pictured below is a typical hand marked paper ballot. Voters cast their votes by filling in the "bubbles" next to their choice for each race and proposition with a pen. For voters who cannot mark the ballot by hand, ballot marking devices provide audio, sip and puff, and other interfaces which allow the voter to record their choices. The ballot marking device then prints each voter's choices on the same ballot used by all voters, allowing it to be read by a standard optical scan machine. |
