Precinct Count Optical Scanners In a precinct count system, after the voter has marked their ballot they
insert it into the optical scanner. They receive
immediate overvote/undervote
notification, before the
ballot is accepted. Examples Of Large States & Cities Using Precinct-Count Optical Scan Illinois - The State of Illinois is an example of a large urban state that has successfully used precinct-count optical scan systems for their elections. For example, 41% of the population of Illinois voters (5 million) uses such systems. Will County, Illinois has posted a web page describing their rationale for choosing a precinct-count optical scan solution. Arizona - 80% of the State of Arizona, including Phoenix, uses precinct-count optical scan. Michigan - The Secretary of State of Michigan has recommended that that entire State use precinct-count optical scan. Seattle - An example of another large city that uses precinct-count optical scan is Seattle. Other states that use mostly precinct-count optical scan systems also include South Dakota and Minnesota.
